Cruises : Cruise Holidays
Cruise holidays are an increasingly popular form of holiday in which you spend time living and dining on a cruise ship whilst stopping off at various places of interest on a pre-determined route.
Popular destinations include Australia, the Baltics, the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, Southern Europe and South America, though you’ll find cruises being offered literally all over the world, all year round.
They’re available to people of all incomes as the prices of them has reduced significantly over recent years. Luxury can be expected on all cruise ships, even those which are older and / or cheaper. Few people tend to be unsatisfied with the level of the surroundings they experience and the service they receive.
There’s a wide range of things to see, do and experience on cruise holidays. Swimming pools, spas, gyms, sports courts (basketball, tennis, badminton, etc.), cinemas, game arcades and libraries are now found on most cruise ships, especially the newer ones.
You’ll find onboard restaurants that rival the best onshore and, depending on the size of the ship, you may well find that you have several to choose from, each with a different menu and ambience. All tastes are catered for, so you’ll be able to choose between having foods that you’re used to and ones that are local to the area you’re passing through.
Night-time entertainment is something to look forward to as cabaret shows, musicals and plays are a regular occurrence. A range of bars and nightclubs, catering to specific tastes (relaxed lounges, child friendly, loud music, etc.), will be open late and formal dinner parties tend to be held at least once a week.
People of all ages go on cruise holidays, though it’s fair to say that couples of middle to old age form the majority. However, family trips are becoming increasingly popular and children-specific facilities and activities are offered on nearly all cruise holidays now.
A typical cruise duration is between 2 weeks and a month, but it’s far from uncommon for people to go on a cruise for 6 months or longer. Many cruise ships embark on a long journey and have passengers join and leave at the various ports they stop off at, rather than repeating the same relatively short journey along the same stretch of coast / water.
There are various things that need to be considered before booking cruise holidays, such as if you can book it yourself or require the assistance of a travel agent, how flexible you can be with regards dates and accommodation, and whether you have or can get the required documentation before the departure dates.
Booking a cruise holiday yourself, without the assistance of a travel agent, will often lower the price, and needn’t be difficult. You can do so by booking directly with the cruise companies through their websites.
